Something I've been curious about for the long time is what might've happened if Suslov had taken control of the Soviet Union instead of Brezhnev.
From what I've read, Suslov was very anti-western, was against detente, supported the return of state-sponsored terror, and was overall one of the most powerful men in the Kremlin. He was a major fact in both Nikita Khruschev's ascendance to power and his downfall.
Supposedly he also had a plan to survive a nuclear war after initiating it himself. This involved launching a Russian nuke from Chinese waters to strike Hawaii. I'm not sure if that's true, but it's still interesting to think about.
Regardless, I'm curious as to how the USSR would've fared with Suslov as premier. What would've changed?
