It wouldn't be a world war; it was only a world war because Germany was a new European country that was stronger than the rest of them, proved it in Europe, and was about to start proving it across the globe.
For mexico to do this, it would require alot and an early POD.
I`m guessing avoidence of demographic collapse after Cortez. Perhaps a defeat of Cortez and subsequent limitation of Spanish contact in the earliest years to reduce the terrible impact of disease.
