I read in a military aviation magazine from ten years ago about the time when Mexico acquired a batch of T-33s in the 60's. I noticed that what prompted Mexico to modernize its air force (something that it's yet to do again since the turn of the millenium) was the fact that the Guatemalan Air Force was stronger than Mexico's, and they used it to throw threats against Mexico for supposed violations against their territorial waters.
Here's a rundown of this phony war in English. Since if you try to look for more information, most sources are in spanish.
AFAIK, Mexico's air force (due to always being undersupplied and being treated as a "white elephant" by almost every government since Miguel Alemán) was so underdeveloped that their plan consisted on a do-or-die bombing run with their hastily-rehabilitated P-47s used as escorts.
What would have happened then, if war actually ends up happening?
