WI: Mexica revolt a failure?

What if the Mexicas didn't revolt or their revolt failed leading to no Temple Massacre and a continuation of a successful alliance between Cortes and Moctezuma?

I'm going for a pro-Spanish Mexica and a significantly more peaceful colonization, not a Cortesian Empire.

Once Cortes left Alvarado behind, there's going to be a massacre. There was a huge element of the Mexica nobility that didn't take the presence of the Spaniards kindly and if Montezuma was going to do nothing about it, you'll see him being removed and killed pretty soon.

So your POD is the death of Alvarado followed by a secondary POD combining suppression and appeasement of the Mexica nobility?

Nice start!

Result?

You could have Captain-General Hernan Cortes pick someone other than Pedro Alvarado in garrisoning Tenochtitlan? Anyone would be better than him. And you're not going to have much luck appeasing the Mexican nobility. Cortes failed to get much support though I reckon that was mostly of Alvarado's doing mixed in with holding their Great Speaker hostage against his will. Then again, the nobles were not going to follow Montezuma if he remains a puppet.

Cuauhtemoc is a far more younger, competent and charismatic leader who would lead the insurrection against Montezuma (and what nobles decide to stick with him) and the Spaniards regardless. And he'll massacre the Spanish garrison and see to it that Cortes receives a ghastly end as a sacrifice to the War God.

The way that Savoy handled it in Two Lucky Princes is probably the most feasible way for a pro-Spanish Mexica Empire to exist.

So... killing off Cuauhtemoc and Alvarado could help? Or killing Alvarado and somehow making Cuauhtemoc pro-Spanish?

Also, how did Savoy do it? I sadly only read the first page or two of TLP...

Have Cortes lose. The diseases still make their damage and the frustration among their tributaries leads to the Triple Alliance weakening that another conquistador (Cortes again or someone who has had experience in his expedition) goes and vassalizes it several years or several decades later.

And what are the results of that?
