WI: Meles Zenawi Lives Longer - effects on Ethiopia?

Avoiding Meles succumbing to whatever illness he died from in 2012, the Prime Minister manages to live longer. What are the effects on Ethiopia?

This is a very good question that I'm a bit frustrated at not being able to answer in a comprehensive form other than what might be a gradual political and economic liberalization process.

Would he actually? From what I've seen, Meles was turning Ethiopia down the path of an African China so you might see more crackdowns and whatnot.

Considering that Meles' administration was beginning to work towards egalitarian rights, I'm tempted to say yes but there's a very good chance you're right. However, one thing to be sure is that Ethiopia would be more stable than it currently is without the death of Meles weakening the hold of the Federal government over the various states that make up Ethiopia but I think it'd only be a matter of time until liberalization occurs, lest Meles face what Haile-Mariam Desalegn did IOTL.

A definite benefit would be avoiding the current ethnic cleansing and struggles going on southern Ethiopia.
