WI McGovern denied 1972 nomination

Suppose Shirley Chisolme did significantly better and the split radical vote enabled a more establishment Dem to run against Nixon.

I assume the Republicans win, probably by less than otl but still heavily

Depending on who the Dem nominee is, the election would be more balanced, with the Democrats holding parts of the south and maybe win some states in the northeast and the EV-rich states of the midwest.

Of course it would depend on the candidate, but I think the labor movement would support the nominee for the presidency. It would be political suicidal for the Dems to choose an anti-labor candidate.

Muskie or Humphrey would do better. Muskie was the candidate that Nixon did fear the most hence why he was smeared with the "Canuck letter".
