WI McCain takes Lieberman?

I just finished reading "Game Change". Apparently, McCain really wanted to name Joe Lieberman as his VP. Steve Schmidt, Nicole Wallace, and Lindsey Graham all thought it was a great idea.

I am not unaware that among the base That Palin was popular and most likely held several States.

But WI McCain had followed his gut? Could Lieberman get through the convention? Would it have made a difference?

For those of you interested in Politics of the time " Game Change" covering the 2008 race and "Double Down" covering 2012 are excellent reads. It very ironically, points out what kind of candidate Hillary would be.

@CalBear I put this post 1900 as it is settled history.

Senator John McCain was never very popular with the Republican base and I believe that if he had tried to pick Senator Joe Lieberman as his Vice Presidential pick there would have been a revolt at the convention. In fact it was only after he picked Sarah Palin that the Republic base began to support him. While in theory he may have gained some democrat votes it is likely that he would have lost a massive amount of Republican votes. Lindsay Graham is poorly regarded by most Conservative Republicans so his opinion is worthless.
As for Senator Joe Lieberman he was a better Senator than either of the two individuals currently serving as Senators from CT as he had a better grasp of Foreign affairs than those two.

Still.loses. would need to get the base to vote for.him as the "lesser of 2 evils" and Obama stumbles..maybe Biden flubs the vp debate badly

He'd lose even worse than OTL. Don't get me wrong, Palin was a mistake, not since the Eagleton debacle of 1972 was there a worse choice of running mate, but Lieberman, if he were to make it past the convention, would cause a record low turn out amongst the Republican base and if McCain can't rely on that then how else can he win?

He'd lose, quite possibly worse than OTL, and because Democrats are spineless, they'd still let him keep all of his committee chairmanships. That said, there'd be even more activist whining about that, which might cause him to switch caucuses, ensuring the ACA doesn't pass ITTL.

What if McCain picks Lieberman and then faces a revolt at the convention? It's probably ASB, but could they switch to a brokered convention like some of the #NeverTrump Republicans were suggesting before the 2016 RNC?

Nope. Not worth throwing away the current election for that. At a minimum, they'd need a clear idea of who to put up instead.

To be blunt, IMO I don't think a revolt at the convention is ASB, from what I have read.

We haven't had one of those since before the modern primary system told hold (I don't think 1980 was big enough to count). I don't think that's a coincidence, really: a revolt at the convention that actually affected the nomination would be seen as overturning the will of the voters, who did pick McCain, however grudgingly. If it didn't happen to Trump, well, McCain didn't have nearly as many enemies.
