Max Weber is an interesting figure. Unlike Karl Marx, he seemed more interested in understanding and explaining human society and economic systems rather than having a political agenda (not that his views were not flawed in other ways). In 1920, he died of pneumonia at the age of 56. What would have happened if he lived long enough to see the rise (and fall) of the Nazis? He would have been 81 in 1945.

After a quick search, I wasn't able to find any information on how he was viewed by the Nazis. I assume his attitudes towards the Jews would have been perceived as too positive. The impact of Nazi thuggery on the German educational system probably would not have sat well with him either. But would he have taken a stand against Hitler, or would he have become a silent critic, or even a collaborator? Would he have fled?
