WI: Matt Smith not injured

Wiki's rundown says it happened sometime during his teen school years, so unless 16-ish Matt was already being noted by the pro scouts before the injury, I think the chances of him getting to the premier league aren't that great.

But I look at his presentation skills as an actor, and I see charisma that goes beyond what acting class can instill in any old Joe Wannabe Star.

So I think if Smith does spend some time around the lower rungs of professional futbol he has another path open to him--sporting journalism.

He could end up as the next Gary Lineker, but without Lineker's stellar career. Who knows, though?

The biggest butterfly is the 11th Doctor. Paterson Joseph was rumoured but Moffat's never actually said he was interested in him. Perhaps my dream of Mark Gatiss might come true.

...you must be joking. Please tell me you're joking.

Moffat has been extremely controversial. A lot of people were initially very excited by his tenure, indeed impressed by his first series, but feel he's become exceedingly hit and miss in the last two years. I am one of them.

He is far from the 'he's not RTD, so he must be amazing' status he had among fans in the early days.

What about Bill Nighy? Also I once had a dream where Ian MacShane was the Master...

I have no problem with Moffat but what's with the Doctor appearing to be love with every companion in the new series(or vice versa, except Donna).

The fact is Moffat probably wouldn't have gone for an older, well-known actor. Especially not Paterson Joseph or Derek Jacobi who'd already been in Dr Who... It may've been rumoured that certain people would be selected, but simply put at the time the rumours were everywhere. I mean I remember a rumour spreading that Richard Hammond was going to get the job.

I can see Benedict Cumberbatch being the next Doctor, he did consider it, and if Moffat doesn't have OTL's best consideration for the role Cumberbatch may accept. If Cumberbatch did accept, and I expect if he was pushed enough he would seeing as he's an avid Dr Who fan, that could mean he'd be in both Sherlock and Dr Who, as IIRC he'd already been cast as Sherlock Holmes.

If this is the case his fame will explode even further, and the scheduling probably wouldn't clash seeing as Sherlock had so few episodes.

Moffat's statements suggest that they were looking for an older Doctor, but Matt's audition changed their mind. However, Smith had recently auditioned for Watson in Sherlock, so it's entirely possible that Moffat specifically requested that he audition for The Doctor. Who knows?

If Smith had pursued a footballing career, I'd rather hope that Chiwetel Ejiofor would have been the Eleventh Doctor.

How old is "older"? I would have killed for one season of Michael Gambon as the doctor - a mixture of the first four doctors - Hartnell's age and bad temper, Troughton's absent mindedness, some of Pertwee's dandyism and a healthy levening of Tom Bakeresque insanity...

Bill Nighy has allegedly auditioned to be the 9th, 10th and 11th Doctors. With Smith mucking about in the Championship, he might have got his shot.
