WI:Matilda of Brittany not Irene Angelina marries Philip of Swabia

From what I read Richard I wants for Arthur to marry a sicilian princess, if Matilda of Brittany survives she can marry the king of sicily not her older sister, Eleanor who is too high to marry the king of Sicily, she would replace Irene Angelina as the bride of Philip of Swabia.

If Richard still dies in 1199, would the Holy Roman Empire support Arthur and how would John treat Arthur and Eleanor?

Wasn't Eleanor already on her way to a "lower" marriage to the duke of Austria, alongside the daughter of Isaac II Comnenos of Cyprus, when news came that the duke was dead and the marriage was off. In contrast to a "mere" duke, the king of Sicily looks pretty good, I'd imagine

Perhaps if Matilda survives she is the one that gets betrothed off to the Duke of Austria instead..right.

Maybe, maybe not. From what I understand it was her dowry the duke was after, elder daughter would come with a larger dowry than a younger one. AFAIK he demanded Richard send BOTH Eleanor and the Comnena girl, I'm not sure if he planned to wed the one he preferred and Richard would have to cough up the dowry for that one. Now, as to what he would do with the one he DIDN'T marry I have no idea, send her home? marry her to his brother? keep her as a hostage? Who knows. Nor can I speak for Richard beyond asking what he was thinking to send BOTH princesses galivanting abroad

I also remember that the austrian dukes also want the hand of one of the Blesvin nieces of Richard
