WI: Marry, Queen of Scots had given birth to her twins in 1567

I came across this interesting tidbit: Mary, Queen of Scots was pregnant with twins in 1567. What is she had carried this to term?

Let's say that she gave birth to a girl and boy, named Elizabeth (for the English Queen) and Robert (typical Scottish name). What would the world do with these little royals? Would they join their mother in England? Would Elizabeth 1 have Robert as her heir instead of James to keep England and Scotland separate? Who would they marry?

Lol, she wouldn't have named the girl Elizabeth or the boy Robert for obvious reasons!

I think to some extent James VI benefited from being the only option, Scotland was so rife with rebellion in this period that if he had he a younger brother as an alternative, he would always have a rival for the crown, which would make his reign more unsettled.

I think it unlikely that the children would have been taken with Mary, when she crossed into England, she never intended to spend the rest of her life there, she fully intended to return to Scotland and her throne with the assistance of an army provided by Elizabeth and France.

Assuming the two children were raised in Scotland as Protestants with their elder half brother, the young girl would have probably been married off to a Scandinavian prince, its harder to guess the boy's future.

Ok then, what about Margaret and Alexander?

Wouldn't rule out Elizabeth - Mary was always keen to emphasise her nearness to the English Crown and wasn't unwilling to flatter to achieve her aims - given that Elizabeth had been godmother to James VI - it would not be unusual.
If not then either Margaret or Mary would be good alternatives,
For the boy - Robert or Alexander would be likely.

I read somewhere that Mary, Queen of Scots also suffered from phantom pregnancies (can't remember if this was while in France or Scotland), but clearly she was fertile enough to produce more than just James. Although, considering how James treated his cousin, who was the son of one of James V's bastards (therefore AFAIK no right to the throne), a full sibling might end up getting the short end of the stick.

Also, do we know that they were definitely a boy and a girl? Or was the miscarriage too early to tell?

It wasn't recorded, I just took the liberty to decide gender and that seemed easier :)
