WI: Mario Cuomo 2000?

In this scenario, instead of Bill Clinton offering Tennessee Senator Al Gore the vice presidential nomination, he offers New York Governor Mario Cuomo. I know Cuomo would probably never accept this offer, but let's say he reluctantly. Would George Pataki still win the New York Gubernatorial Election of 1994? From what I heard, Clinton would have done better in both 1992 and 1996, had he selected a northern running mate. Although, wouldn't this cut into his margins of victory in the South? Would Andrew Cuomo still become Secretary of HUD, or would he maybe pursue a career in New York state politics? Would Vice President Mario Cuomo be able to defeat George W. Bush in 2000? For a VP nominee, I was thinking either Dick Gephardt, Bob Graham, Tom Harkin, or Bob Kerrey would be good fits for Cuomo. Could he win re-election in 2004?

Running up the vote totals in NYC/LA/Chicago doesn't guarantee winning the electoral vote.

Anyways, gore came as close to winning OTL due to lewinsky imo.

So, if he ran up the popular vote in those states, why was Florida so close? If the election wasn’t that closely contested, why did we have such a tight race here?

Gore isn’t the greatest candidate ever but let’s not pretend that he was unelectable. He wasn’t.
