WI: Margaret of Austria and Philbert of Savoy have a son

What if Margaret of Austria had a son with Philbert of Savoy, would this mean that Charolais and Franche Comte would fall to Savoyard's hands would this mean bad relations between Savoy and France?

Um NO. WHY would those territories go to Savoy? The actual holder was Philip of Burgundy then his son Charles V. Margaret had no real claim to them.

I rather think Louis of France might have some observations to make if Franche Comte were up for grabs. Which of course could only be if Phillip the Handsome were not.

France did not get Franche Comte because Charles VIII abandoned his betrothal with Margaret of Austria, an enlarged Savoy would mean some conflict with France and Savoy, Margaret of Austria's Savoyard husband could be granted Franche Comte and Charolais once Philip the Fair becomes the Emperor.:D

It would be interesting - especially considering that genetically this child might win the royalist lottery (as far as looks go). Margaret's brother was Philippe 'the Fair/le Bel/der Schöne/el Hermoso' and Philibert was 'the Handsome/il Bello'. The child might grow into a 16th century looker:D:eek:

He would be an eligible bachelor then..

Henry VIII (to the Holy Roman Emperor): I like you

Charles V: Well, except for the chin - what's not to like?

Well this kid - *Philibert III - might be cursed with that, but on the whole, I'd say yes.
