WI Mao dies in the Chinese Civil War?

If nationalists win the war, China would be under corrupt military dictatorship but it not be in so bad shape as in OTL during the Great Leap. And possiblility China would transfer to democracy on 1970's or 1980's.

If communists still win that, probably there will be someone saner leader and so not famine on 1950's or at least not so bad.

Think Taiwan

No. India at best.

Anyway, that assumes Mao dying alone would cause Kuomintang victory. Maybe early on it would, but after the Long March I don't think so. Mao was a good commander but Communists didn't win the Civil War because of one man, they won because they could credibly promise the peasants land reform and the Kuomintang couldn't and because of help from the Soviets.
