WI MacArthur is not removed from command?

Hello,

What Dugout Doug will do after 1951 if he's not removed from command and the Korean War ends in 1951 by following a different path?

Will the Big Chief retire in the comming years or goes to politics or private industry?

Truman didn't like him so will he a search/find another pretext to remove him?

Depends on how the war ends. Do the Chinese not get involved and MacArthur conquers North Korea, or do the Chinese get involved and we get pretty much OTL but with MacArthur remaining in command? That will affect his image and determine what he does post-war. He was in his seventies by the time the war started in 1950. If it ends in 1951, then he'll probably retire. The war ending in 1951 also means that Truman's popularity won't take as big of a hit. Maybe Truman runs again in 1952? I just don't see MacArthur getting very far if he runs for public office. Like Patton, he could never learn to keep his mouth shut when he should have. A couple of gaffes (and he would make them) would end any political aspirations. Most likely he goes into private life and makes the occasional political statements........much like OTL.

Also, Truman wasn't looking for a reason to fire MacArthur. MacArthur provided the reason. To quote Truman: "I fired him because he wouldn’t respect the authority of the President…I didn’t fire him because he was a dumb son of a bitch, although he was, but that’s not against the laws for generals. If it was, half to three-quarters of them would be in jail.”

Truman knew that MacArthur was very popular with the American people and that Truman would take a massive hit if he relieved him. So if MacArthur can keep his mouth shut and respect Truman's decisions (to say nothing of his position as Commander-in-Chief), then I have no doubt that he would remain in command for the duration of the war.

China is not involved. The war ends on a partition like OTL. But Mac is still in command at this time and he's the "winner".
Maybe as the "winner" of the Korean war he will just retire.

He was rumored to be a shoo in for President in 1952. However, he ultimately decided against that for some reason.

MacArthur would *not* have been a strong candidate. He lost his (alleged) home state Wisconsin to Stassen in the 1948 Republican primary. http://www.ourcampaigns.com/RaceDetail.html?RaceID=35777

Yes, there was a lot of talk of him running when he was dismissed, because the immediate reaction of public opinion to the dismissal was outrage. But that faded pretty quickly. All a MacArthur candidacy would have done would be to make the nomination of General Eisenhower even more likely than in OTL, because the Taftite vote would be divided between Taft himself and MacArthur. "Even MacArthur's acolyte Robert Wood said of Taft, 'We cannot desert the man who had no hesitation in putting his name on the Taft-Hartley Act, the man who fought unlimited government controls, the man who fought communism in government, the man who fought for our kind of America.'" https://books.google.com/books?id=3q92ePfQDloC&pg=PA181

How could it end in a partition without Chinese involvement? The US had conquered almost the entire peninsula by the time China intervened.

MacArthur was fired because he disobeyed a direct order out of arrogance and could easily have caused WWIII. Furthermore, if Truman had NOT fired him, it would have set a terrible precedent.

If Mac had followed orders, he would not have been sacked.
