WI Louis XVIII fathers a son?

In 14 May 1771 the Comte de Provence married Marie Josephine Louise de Savoy Princess of Sardinia and Piedmont...
They had a happy marriage but after 2 miscarriages in 1774 and 1781 the couple remained childless...
WI the future Louis XVIII had fathered a son in 1774 or 1781?
How is that son altering post-Revolutionary French History? Any thoughts?

No Charles X, No July Monarchy? Correct me if I am wrong but Louis XVIII was sensible enough not to try to roll back the clock to pre-1789 conditions. Not so Charles X. Maybe a sensible heir could see the bnefits of gradual liberaization thus averting Louis-Phillippe and Napoleon III. Bourbons on the throne of a constitutional monarchy for a long time??

A Citizen-King from the heart of the Bourbons? Interesting... Maybe too liberal for Louis XVIII though...

Not sure what you mean by this ?

Its not Louis XVIII who woud be the liberal, but his son who would presumably be Louis XIX

A son doesn't necessarily have the views of the father

The Duke of Artois would still be leading the Ultras in a rearguard action, though, which would have serious tensions

It wouldn't matter how liberal Louis XIX would be as surely most of the rest of the nobility would be Ultras anyway

A possible coup from the Ultras and the Comte d' Artois against Louis XIX?

That would cause some trouble with the Kingdom of Sardinia

Both Comte de Provence/Louis XVIII and the Comte d'Artois/Charles X married daughters of Victor Amadeus III of Sardinia.

Two assumptions

1. Louis XVII dies in 1824 as he died OTL
2. Louis XIX was born in 1781 which would make him 43 when he suceeded his father

If the Comte attempts a coup in 1824 something might depend on the politics of his brother-in-law and Louis XIX's uncle, Charles Felix, King of Sardinia

Charles Felix was related to Austria too... a potential coup against his nephew could have caused Austria's intervention against the Comte d' Artois and France...

Ferdinand IV of Spain would have been in the mix as well. His paternal grandfather and Louis XIX's maternal grandmother were brother and sister

Wouldn't this be at the time of the Concert of Europe when Congresses decided major issues, with Britain, Prussia, Russia and Austria trying to remain united on all major issues ?

Yes... European monarchs would like to settle the French issue easy and quiet... they couldnt tolerate France breaking their "rules" and the Holy Alliance...
