Louis XIV of France is considered one of France's greatest kings. During his reign the French went from struggling with great internal conflict to dominating Europe, fighting just about every single european nation to a standstill.
So my question is this: What happens if Louis XIV dies young, perhaps even as a child?
I was thinking, maybe he catches tuberculosis from when his father was dying and ends up dying as well. For good measure, why not include his younger brother Phillipe as well.
This would leave a significant hole in the french line of succession (I think at that point it might be Gaston who would be the next in line) and would lead to Anne not having the political or personal capital to push out Mazarin.
I have no idea of how relationships were between the different actors at this point, but what might the consequences be? Could something like the Fronde happen or similar palace intrigue? Would France still end up with absolute monarchy? What might be the side effects on the Franco-Spanish and the Thirty Years' War?
