WI: "Lost in Space" Film Did Better?

Lost in Space was released to theaters in 1998. Financially, it did well, knocking "Titanic" out of number 1 at the box office, and making $136,159,423 on a budget of $80 million. However, it was negatively reviewed by critics (going so far as to earn a Razzie for worst remake or sequel), and it's financial success was not enough for a planned sequel and film franchise.

The plans for the sequel were apparently discussed in the DVD commentary, which I don't have, but according to IMDB, the screen writer said the planned sequel would have had the Robinson family making it to Alpha Prime, but discovering it was already populated by humans because the Jupiter 7 had actually fallen through a wormhole in the first film that had sent them to the future (which is hinted at in the first film). The subplots would have been Judy Robinson creating a cure for Dr Smith to prevent him from turning into Spider Smith from the space-spider bite he got in the first film, and Penny ending up receiving the same color changing abilities as that Blarp creature.

So what if the Lost in Space film did better? This scenario can also involve changing things about that film to make it more successful, from minor things to major overhauls.

My problem with that movie is the script and the plot.
also the actors in movie, there was no feeling or real social interaction under the Family Robinson.
except Gary Oldman, but he was victim of the lousy script.
and design of new Jupiter 7 sucks.

the plot had focus more on a dysfunctional Family Robinson, who becoming a family circle and face together, the impossible.
and Dr. Z Smith stay originally an utterly evil would-be killer who became a sympathetic anti-hero by the end of the movie.
not this spider crap Alien clone (and this time travel story) !

means Plot focus more on Family Robinson and there struggle with Dr. Z Smith, for Survival.

There was a 'lost in space' film?

I had to go back and check that this wasnt a dbwi!

Considering how bad the tv series was, the obvious question is: Why? Or even Why!?!?!?
