WI: Long-live Tarquinius the Proud? Turnus the Liberator?

I have been working on a World where Rome is insignificant or non-existent for a while now, and I have two possible PODs that I wish to put up two peer-review and I am wondering which one would be better; Sextus Tarquinius doesn't sneak away and rape Lucretia, a noblewoman, and therefore Brutus and others do not rebel and Tarquinius continues to rule rome.
Or Tarquinius fails to get swords planted at the cabin of Turnus and he doesn't get killed, and as a result Turnus convinces the Latin League to turn against Rome, eventually destroying the city.

Regarding how much you have more myth and legends than real history about Tarquinius and Turnus, I'm not sure it would be good PODs.

Technically, it's more or less ASB, as the history was probably far more different.

I was concerned in part about that; do you have any idea about a more ideal POD? Preferably in the period before they became a republic? How much historic information can actually be relied upon?

Err...Not much. A good POD, but already used and well by "A World Without Rome", is the capture of the city by the Gauls.

For the royal period, we have almost only archaeological evidences as the historical sources (I think the first is a treaty between Carthage and Rome, in 507) concern exclusively the republican era. Even if the story of royal Rome is maybe not only the re-use of indo-european myths, how it came to us taken most of this form.

I can't think of a good historical POD for this period, but maybe Errnge?

Romulus having a legitimate son who is an adult and poised to suceed him when he dies/is assassinated might be a good PoD.

Well, we know that a monarchy of some sort preceded the Republic. Have the PoD with the first King, whoever he might be, whatever he might be called, having a strong legitimate heir who can establish a hereditary dynasty in that place.

I have to wonder how to describe the POD though? All I have is that instead of a leader being replaced by a republic after his death some indefinite period of time ago, I have a leader establishing a hereditary dynasty some indefinite period of time ago. Although, at least you have something better than nothing.
