WI-Lincoln invades Canada

According to my BBC History magazine, William Seward advised Lincoln to invade Canada and other British American possessions to try and unite the country with a 'short victorious war', as the man who told Czar Nicholas to attack Japan would put it. Now, what would happen in such a scenario?

Wasn't there a long brutal war to reunite the country within months of Lincoln taking office. Why would he need another one. And how exactly would he frame the request to the Senate for a declaration of war?

Well, at the stage when only threats of secession were being made. Everyone knew it was a real possibility. Which is why the prospect of fighting a war to win them over becomes oh so more attractive.

Seven states had already seceded before Lincoln took office. The Confederacy had already been formed before Lincoln took office.

Everyone except Seward knew that his idea was loony. Lincoln knew it.
