Tricky. It can be argued that by this point the Republic was too badly wounded to live for much longer.
Well I really think thats the only option. Brutus and Cassius' position rests on the idea that they are going to restore the republic. Unlike Antony or Octavian, they can't seize sole power for themselves-also, representing the oligarchy, a return to the republic is favorable to them.
Also considering they'd have the fame and auctoritas to become the most powerful men in the republic, it would work. There really isn't anyone after Octavian and Antony on the Caesarian side that can pose a significant challenge. Lepidus would switch sides in an instant.
So the republic limps on into the next generation-And it would at least last into the next generation (in the same way it did after the Sullan civil wars), that much I am pretty certain of.
