So, De Gaulle was rather adamant about liberating France before the war ended and getting every speck of ground so there was no occupation zone in France. The Resistance (which was rather bigger now after it was clear the British, American, and Canadian armies were swooping in) caused an uprising in Paris that diverted the attention of the Western Allies so they could prevent everyone being killed by the Germans instead of bypassing the city and driving into Germany. That backstory out of the way, the French wanted the credit for liberating Paris. To go alone with this partial fiction the Americans demanded only whites be in the parade of liberation, and they only had an armored division that was pure white, which every other division having them as the minority. In the end they used their white French soldiers,North Africans and Syrians who 'passed', and whatever Spaniards they had at hand. What if the French refused the demand for a Whites Only liberation?
Would the Americans refuse to give them the honor of marching into the city? Would the French rush in, possibly having a battle or two? And what would race relations be like if the French national conscious is of men, women, and children sheering as Senenegalese, Malians, Gabonese, Algerians, and Syrians marched through their capital and showing off the spirit of liberté, égalité, and fraternité?
