WI: Lawerance lives a long life

What if TE Lawerance didn't die in 1935, and live to die of old age. What type of role would he of played in WW2 and also in the post WW2 middle east?

Susan Schwartz wrote a story about Lawrence meeting Rommel in North Aftrica after talking with Churchill.I know it is in one of the Bantam series of WIs edited by Greg Benford. If I find the book I will let you know.Story only ends after the meeting with Rommel, though.

He'd probably be with British Intelligence, like MI5, or maybe, the SOE. He'd be the Chief of Station. He'd probably be sent to Baghdad in the 1920s, to talk
the Arabs out of fighting the British. and again, in the 1940s. The Ba'ath Party
would be marginalized and Saddam Hussein would be just another thug.

Lawrence.

Spelling, capitalization, and punctuation are not difficult, so try harder.

He ends up sidelined, like J. F. C. Fuller, if not in Holloway Prison with the Mosleys, Captain Ramsay, and the like under Regulation 18B.

The Spectator, "Low Life", 2nd April 2008
It was more or less as Lawrence left it on the day he kick-started his Brough Superior and rode off to send a telegram to Henry Williamson inviting him to Clouds Hill to discuss Williamson’s suggestion that Lawrence become actively involved in the British Union of Fascists.
