WI: Lafayette leads France?

In the July Revolution of 1830, former war hero Marquis de Lafayette was offered to become the dictator of France. In OTL, he declined, instead, supporting Louis Philippe I's rule under the House of Orleans.

What if in an alternate timeline, Lafayette accepted the position to lead France? How would the history of France change under his rule?

Dictatorship ? It’s the first time I ever hear or read about this.

President of a newly proclaimed republic, yes he could have been if he had more actively pushed for a republic instead of rallying Louis-Philip duke of Orleans.

But dictator would be contrary to Lafayette’s principles and political ideas. And anyway he was 73 years old in 1830 and had but 4 years left to live.

Do you have sources about this dictatorship proposal ?
