In 1547 Thomas Seymour proposed marrying Jane to his nephew, the newly-crowned King Edward VI. However, Seymour's brother, Edward Seymour Duke of Sommerset, held the power in their nephew Edward's household. Somerset had already arranged a match for the king with Princess Elisabeth de France, the daughter of Henry II de France.
With two conflicting goals, the Seymour brothers engaged in a power struggle. However, primarily due to the ill health of the young king, the marriage between Edward and Jane never took place. The Seymour brothers were eventually both tried for treason and executed after a coup by the ambitious John Dudley Duke of Northamberland.
WI the marriage between Jane Grey and Edward VI had taken place in 1547? How is this altering History? Any thoughts?
