WI: Kucinich Challenges Obama 2012

What if in the 2012 democratic primary, Dennis Kucinich decided to run against Obama in the Primary? How well would he have done? Would he have gotten the nomination? If not, would Obama's reelection chances be shattered?

Pretty much this.

Kucinich has no chance of getting the nomination, but there is an issue of how badly Kucinich can criticize the President. Obama doesn't need to lean left to defeat Kuchinich, but if Kucinich's criticism are able to gain any traction, then its something that could validate the GOP's criticisms of Obama's performance.

For example, if Kucinich attacks the economic performance under Obama, or criticizes the results of his foreign policy, certain GOP attacks won't be seen as partisan, but more legitimate. Obama benefited greatly by a press reluctant to criticize him.

Obama won by a large enough margin that he'll still likely win re-election, but given that the press was loath to attribute anything bad to Obama, even some criticism of Obama not from the GOP would have some effect.
