Let's say Kubrick's 2001 gets a Best Picture nomination to go with Kubrick's Directorial nomination; Best Director win can also follow, and maybe Best Picture. Then he goes on to find the funding for his next envisioned project -- a biopic of Napoleon Bonaparte. (He wrote a script OTL --latest copy here (is a pdf); review here.)
First, is this a plausible way for the film to get made with a release in, say, 1972? Second, what would be the impact on cinematic history?
Oh, and of course I'm thinking of crossing this with a couple of other ideas I have out there -- for example, where Copolla doesn't do The Godfather. (How about that -- could Napoelon become the "ultimate" film of the later century?)
