WI: KMT Vietnam?

The question is often raised as to where Chiang Kai-sek and his KMT might flee to after the Chinese Civil War if not Taiwan. Here's an idea, what about Vietnam?

Following the immediately post-War power vacuum in Vietnam, the ROC was one of the most influential actors in the region, probably coming second only to the French.

So what if the French have no desire to retake Vietnam following WWII, leaving the ROC the dominant power in the region. Aside from this, the Chinese Civil War continues as OTL, and eventually Mao Zedong triumphs. The KMT, instead of fleeing to Taiwan, march into North Vietnam and set up their own state.

What would this state look like, and on a scale of one to ten, how screwed will the Vietnamese communists be?

It lasts 1 week before being freed by the People's Liberation Army, I think.

In OTL some remnants of the KMT army survived in northern Burma and eventually became quite influential. Mao could live with that and I think he could live with this. But they wouldn't set up their own state, they'd just continue to claim China. They might also prove decisive in helping the French defeat the communists (because the French will be back, make no mistake about it).

The French would never tolerate KMT in Vietnam. Neither would the Vietnamese.

As was stated, there were significant KMT presence in Burma. If they couldn't go to Taiwan, Burma would be a likely choice. I don't know if the KMT could take over the country though. They may just occupy parts of it and use it as a base to "re-conquer" the mainland. This would certainly lead to conflict with Mao sooner or later.

This would be an interesting POD actually. What would America do? It could support the KMT to take over Burma and fortify it against China. But doing so would be quite unfair to the native Burmese who had just achieved independence from the British.
