WI: Klaus Fuchs Caught in Early 1944?

What if Klaus Fuchs' espionage was discovered in early 1944? This was after he'd been transferred from the UK to New York to work on the Manhattan Project, but before he was sent to Los Alamos. Could this lead to other Soviet agents in the US government being unmasked? What effect would this have on US relations with the UK and the USSR?

He probably gets a shorter jail sentence than OTL, or none at all, the USSR is the America's most powerful and important ally at this point in time after all.

This. I'd imagine it would be hushed up, too - it would be a political football. It would not be announced to the public and any journalists who found out would be encouraged not to report on it.

How would the project have fared without his input?

I'm not sure, but my guess is not much different. Fuchs did contribute significantly to the project, but there was no shortage of talent at Los Alamos; I expect the difference could and would be made up.
