WI: Kingdom of the Bosphorus survives

The Kingdom of the Bosphorus was a greek Kingdom in Crimea and Southern Ukraine, but it later became a Roman client state.I like to define it the "Northern Rome",but it got destroyed before the Byzantine and Western Empire were created (i think). What if it had been able to survive to the Ostrogoth Migrations?Would it have became a Byzantine ally? How long could have it survived?Would it be viewed as a roman successor state?Would it have developed a roman/greek language of its own?

Actually I never have heard about this kingdom, but from the little knowledge I have about the history of Ukraine, the area has seen plenty of invaders from the east, so I assume that in this period it would be very difficult for ANY principality to survive very long.

Well,Crimea is easily defendable and if it continues to be the center of the Kingdom it can survive for medium time.

It's unlikely to have survived any longer than it did, but perhaps fortifying the northern border keeping the steppe nomads out of the Crimean peninsula would give the Greek kingdom a few more years of life. Think Hadrian's Wall in the Ukraine. If the Theodosian Walls kept the Huns out of besieging Constantinople, perhaps a similar defensive fortification, with military garrisons stationed every couple of miles, might be enough to assuage the Goths and succeding barbarians from overwhelming the Crimea. In addition, increasing the size of the Bosphoran fleet to protect shipping in the Black Sea from raids would help to make sure its economy doesn't decline.

Since it was an vassal of Rome, it'd likely remain close to Constantinople. After that, who knows really?
