WI: King Harald Hardrade won England for himself in 1066 ?

I agree, he'd then leave England to Olaf, the two brothers would fight and the Saxons would revolt, probably under Edgar Aethling (who'd presumably be in Scotland with his sister).

So yeah, Knut Mk. 2, as someone said.

Magnus died in 1069, so any fight would be brief.

Maybe Olaf marries Edgar's sister.

You're not really accounting for butterflies here, it's not as if he died of natural causes.

Maybe Olaf marries Edgar's sister.

Possible, there's the precedent of Emma of Normandy, Æthelred's widow, who later married Knut.

Margaret probably still marries Malcolm III of Scotland, but there's another sister, Christina, who was unmarried.

Olaf might, however, still prefer to marry Ingerid of Denmark to any member of the effectively displaced house of Wessex, especially considering that would prevent an invasion by her father Sweyn II, who was planning on pressing his own claim on England.

How did he die? It may be changed by the POD.

A fungal infection derived from eating bad bread. Butterflied away pretty easily.

This is accurate. Harald's surname isn't hereditary; he is literally Sigurd's son. You'll note that his children carry the surnames "Haraldsson" (Harald's son) and "Haraldsdotter" (Harald's daughter) despite all being part of the same family, too. :)

I actually know this, that a name like Williamson originally meant son of William. But I was confused because in the game Harold Godwinson was of the House "of Godwin", so to my amateur eyes it seemed as if the game wasn't making naming conventions standard.
