WI King Alexander I of Greece lives longer?

At 1917 following a petition by the Greek Prime Minister E. Venizelos French and British troops entered (the then neutral) Greece forcing the Pro-German King Constantine I and the Crown Prince George to abdicate... Constantine's second son Alexander was proclaimed King then and Greece joined WWI on the side of the Entente...
However after 3 years (while Greece had gained much territory through the Treaty of Sevres) he died from septic shock after he was bitten by a pet monkey...
Constantine I returned as King and Venizelos lost the upcoming elections leading to a series of Governments which lost the territories gained through Sevres Treaty...
WI He had lived longer? Alexander and Venizelos were quite a pair unlike his father... (Venizelos and Constantine I had a personal "vendetta" since 1912...) However Alexander defied Venizelos only in 1 case... When he wished to marry Aspasia Manos a commoner while Venizelos intended to arrange a marriage for him into the British Royal family...

Well, first butterfly that needs to work first - find a way to get the monkey away from Alexander.

Actually the monkey shouldnt be there... Monkey belonged to a guard of the Royal Palace who had brought the animal illegaly and in secret...
Second the monkey didnt attacked Alexander just out of the blue... Alexander's fav pet his dog discovered the monkey and was harrassing her... Alexander tried to separate the 2 fighting animals and got bitten by the frightened monkey... Ironically the dog who was bitten too survived... only to die from grief 2 days later after Alexander...

OK, I guess we have some work cut out. I guess the POD here would be that the guard of the Royal Palace did not find the monkey. Thus no monkey, thus the dog and Alexander live longer.

Now what?

Besides the disagreement over the Royal marriage Alexander and Venizelos were working in harmony...
I guess that Venizelos would have won the November 1920 elections and the disaster in Asia Minor could have been avoided or at least delayed...

Thank god we've moved away from the monkey

Indeed... Something i forgot to mention... inevitably succession would evolve upon Constantine's I sons or future Crown Prince's George sons since Alexander's marriage to Aspasia Manos (a commoner) was morganatic and their potential offspring illegitimate... (that was part of the deal with Venizelos... He agreed to the marriage but denied succession rights to the children born of this marriage...)

How would the war turn out? It seems nigh impossible for the Greeks to hold onto Izmir and Thrace, let alone anything beyond that area that was included in the Megali Idea. But, their military would be much more improved without Constantine's purges of Venizelist officers and generals. And, the Greeks would surely keep Allied financial and military support for a good while longer. Its possible that Greece's ethnic cleansing of its occupied territory could be much more horrible in this timeline... no doubt to be followed by counter-cleansing by the Turks. A lot less Greeks and Turks.

I'd love to get an expert in on this, as this is not my forte. However, I don't want some vague guess as to the future of TTL... can't anyone analyze the military implications and see how long the war is stretched out, for example, how many casualties there might be?

Don't know how accurate, since things on both side of this conflict as so debated. However do remember reading that not only did Constintine's restoration mean a drop in support from the allies but he made a bid for control of Constantinope. Which switched forces away from the Anatolian front and played a major part in the Greek defeat in the fighting that followed.

That is a very good point! More troops, and Constantinople does not suffer under Greek troops.

I believe it would be fair to say that the first changes would be Greek success in the Battle of Inonu in January 1921. This would slow down the speed of the Soviet Union from sending arms to the Turks, and also keep the Allies confident that the Greeks could win.

By June, the Greeks would occupy Eskisehir and other central strategic areas, and push on the fledgling revolutionaries all the way to Ankara. I believe they could do it given the circumstances... they came very close in OTL. So, the Turkish revolutionaries disband to various areas of the country or abroad, some leaders are executed, and the movement suffers... but the people are more and more sympathetic to the revolutionaries with the Greek occupation. This could mean a full implementation of the Treaty of Sevres, with a second revolutionary backlash sometime in the future against the resurrected rump Ottoman Empire.
