WI Khrushchev was not overthrown

Which reforms had Nikita Khrushchev already enacted when he was overthrown by the party opposition?

How can he stay in power? What can he achieve, in terms of domestic reforms and forein-policy successes? How will this affect the future of the Soviet Union?

I have read somewhere that he hoped to go to West Germany in late 1964 or 1965 and may even re-consider the status of the Berlin Wall and even re-unification for Germany. Also in that period, I would also see a second summit with JFK in Moscow had JFK lived.

Reunification of Germany in 1965? That sounds quite implausible. Good hint, though.

As Khrushchev was being deposed he supposedly said, "you can do this because of me." The point being he returned power to the Politburo from the General Secretary. And by rejecting Stalinism, this was his intention. Of course, this allowed his enemies to exist with power rather than being purged.

By 1964, he had exhausted political capital. He was seen has being erratic and an adventurist. He barely survived a coup in 1957, most likely surviving only because of disorganization by the plotters - they left open the opportunity for Khrushchev to appeal to the Central Committee. But after the Cuban Missile Crisis and several domestic incidents, he lost his credibility.

TLDR; Surviving requires being someone other than Khrushchev.
