WI: Kennedy/Wallace '68.

Imagine if George Wallace wins the Democratic Gubernatorial Primary in 1958 (and not "out-niggered" as he thought it) and becomes governor as a moderate, loved by whites and blacks.

Let's also imagine that JFK narrowly loses in 1960 but makes a comeback in 1968 (like OTL Nixon), and takes Wallace, a popular Deep Southerner, as his VP pick. How do you think this ticket would fare against the Republican ticket (assuming Civil Rights and Vietnam go like OTL)?

How about 1976? I think that if the JFK/Wallace ticket wins in 1968, the VP spot would be the perfect springboard for a Wallace Presidency until 1985 (assuming Iran's peaceful, though).

It was probably not possible for a governor of Alabama in the 1960's to be "loved by whites and blacks" alike. The era of Big Jim Folsom was over and the next era of governors who were relatively moderate on racial issues (including, eventually, Wallace himself) was still in the future. If Wallace wins in 1958 and then governs as a moderate, some segregationist will defeat his chosen candidate in 1962 (he is not eligible for a second consecutive term). And I don't see such a Wallace making a comeback in 1966, either.
