WI: KE085 shot down.

Korean air flight 85 was mistaken for hijacking during 9/11 because pilot thought that atc told them to change the squawk code to 7500. However, U.S. didn't shoot it down. If U.S. did shot it down, what would have happened?

9/11 becomes even more tragic, especially in Korea. Relations between the US and ROK take a temporary dive. Kim Jong-Il accuses Americans of being mass-murderers and the Air Force is gonna have a lot of expaining to do.

Were there any interceptors near enough to attack? In the opening hour getting fighters to all likely intercept positions was near impossible, and difficult in the next couple hours.

Given what had already happened though the USAF and air traffic control would get a lot of criticisim the general attitude would be "Shit happens in war", that it was a tragic but understandable mistake.
