WI: Katherine Tudor Lives?

Basically, what if Katherine Tudor (b.1503) survived? She would be 6 years old at her brother's accession. Let's say that she is as beautiful as her sister Margaret (so good looking but not known as an ethereal beauty like Mary) and is around the same intelligence levels as the rest of her family. She could marry any of these people:

1- Ferdinand, Infante of Spain and Archduke of Austria (b.1503)

2- Henry, Infante of Navarre (b.1503)

3- Philip of Palatinate-Neuburg (b.1503)

4- John Frederick of Saxony (b.1503)

5- Charles, Infante of Spain and Archduke of Austria (b.1500)

6- Ernest of Bavaria (b.1500)

7- Barnim of Pomerania (b.1501)

8- John, Infante of Portugal (b.1502)

Or anyone else you could think of.

Well, considering how Hal flipflopped between allying with France against the Empire and then the Empire against France, it would depend on when she marries.

If she marries in 1518 (when she's 15, like Margaret), she'll get whomever Henry's allied to at that moment, while if she marries at a later age (like Mary, who was 18), she'll get hitched to someone else.

Most likely, Henry will use his sister to marry Karl V when he's in need of an Imperial alliance, rather than his daughter (no waiting for her to come of age etc).

An interesting possibility might be Kate marrying her nephew, the king of Scots (a la Habsburg):D

Another possibility might be François Ier when Queen Claude kicks, instead of Eleonore of Austria.

Princess of England

1503: Elizabeth of York gives birth to Katherine Tudor. Unfortunately, to the horror of all that know her, Elizabeth dies soon after her daughter’s birth. Henry VII honours her dying wish that her child be named after Katherine of Aragon, who is also the child’s godmother, along with her Godfather, the 3 year old Karl of Burgundy.

1504/1508: Normal royal childhood. She is betrothed to Karl of Burgundy for a time, sometimes betrothed to Francis of Angouleme, possible heir to the French throne if Louis XII doesn’t produce a son.

1509: The Princess’ father, Henry VII, dies. While naturally sad at this news, Katherine Tudor takes it well and rejoices in her brother’s succession, though is noted not to have shown any overt rapport to her namesake and very soon sister-in-law, due to the formal nature that Katherine of Aragon possesses and the fact that she is told her dead father didn’t like him and Katherine has taken to fiercely protecting her father’s memory after his death. She attends the wedding of Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragon and is sent back to her newly established household at Hatfield.

1510: The year for Katherine is spend adjusting to her new home and receiving the news of courts while learning her lessons. In a report sent to her brother she is described as wilful but intelligent, exhibiting a mind capable of being above most men or women, but without the willpower to properly use it. Her betrothal to Karl of Burgundy was pushed aside as her sister Mary took that spot, with Katherine Tudor having multiple options, including Ferdinand of Austria (Karl of Burgundy’s brother), Henri of Navarre and John or Portugal. Towards the end of the year Katherine is brought to court to celebrate the coming birth of England’s heir through Katherine of Aragon.

1511: Tragedy strikes the court when Katherine of Aragon miscarries her child. After such a build-up, however, the court and especially Henry VIII take the new very hard. Katherine Tudor leaves the court, Again Katherine of Aragon becomes pregnant and eight months later a male child is born and named Henry Tudor. The child is baptised and Katherine Tudor is made one of his godmothers. The Princess delights over her little nephew and, when he goes through a severe sickness in late November she is said to have stayed praying in church day and night for three days. At his survival the rejoicing is strong and the betrothal between Mary Tudor and Karl of Burgundy is finalised.

1512: Henry VIII leaves the country to invade France, leaving his Queen Katherine of Aragon as regnant. She takes care of matters and, when Scotland attacks in late March, a then pregnant Queen Katherine devises a battle strategy and ends up killing James IV in battle, leaving the pregnant Queen Margaret of Scotland to give birth to King James V not a month later. Katherine Tudor spends the year writing to her brother as he wanders through France trying to be Henry V and failing. Katherine of Aragon gives birth to a daughter in July, named Elizabeth after her dead grandmother and St. Elizabeth of Portugal, whose feast day Elizabeth was born on. However, the princess dies 45 days after her birth, a week before her father returned from France, defeated.

1513: Katherine Tudor finds out that her betrothal with Henri of Navarre is to be finalised and she must ready herself to be married on her 14th birthday. However, Mary Tudor was to marry Karl of Burgundy the next year, so that they might form an alliance to punish the terrible French, once Ferdinand of Aragon had died and rid the word of a scoundrel. Katherine of Aragon spends a year not being pregnant and therefore more playful with her young husband. Little Henry, Prince of Wales turns two.

1514: Louis XII dies, making way for Francis I of France, who marries Claude of France and gets her pregnant. Mary Tudor is married to Karl of Burgundy soon after, creating a power block around the new king. Katherine of Aragon gets pregnant again. Katherine Tudor relishes in being the young, beautiful princess at court, taking the place from her admittedly better looking sister, but earning a reputation for wit and a personality unbelievably charming.

1515: Katherine of Aragon gives birth to a daughter that lives, named Mary Tudor. Princess Katherine Tudor delights in her little niece and is made one of her godmothers, as she was with her nephew. The Princess Mary takes over Hatfield as Princess Katherine readies at court to leave for Navarre. Francis I of France is blessed with a daughter, named Princess Charlotte of France. Katherine Tudor leaves for Navarre and arrives with high expectations.

Henry VIII sends more troops to his sister, but in secrecy, as he is trying to get his daughter Isabel betrothed to Infante Charles. Francis I of France and Claude of France lose a child when the Queen miscarries. In a meeting in late November Henri and Katherine, Monarchs of Navarre manage to conceive again, as does Mary Tudor and Charles, Holy Roman Emperor. Margaret Douglas gets pregnant and gives birth to Dorothea Douglas.

1522: Katherine of Navarre miscarries early in the year. Mary Tudor, Holy Roman Empress, gives birth to Joanna, Infanta of Spain. Princess Mary Tudor of England is betrothed to James V of Scotland. Katherine of Aragon has to endure a second bastard when Henry VIII bring his child by Mary Boleyn, Katherine Fitzroy. Henri of Navarre takes some territories in Spain.

1523: Francis I of France welcomes Madeline, Princess of France. Henri of Navarre takes more territory back from Spain, and sends back to Navarre letters to his wife and children about how brave and valiant the troops are. Francis I sends some troops during this year as well, feeling that he might weaken Spain before the French King goes to conquer Milan. Mary Tudor, Holy Roman Empress, sends a letter back to England that deeply offends her brother. She says that she feels that marrying Isabel to Charles would be a mistake as they are too closely related. A valid concern, she manages to make it seem that her child was too good for his child.

1524: Katherine of Aragon warns off her husband from helping his brother-in-law Henri of Navarre from taking lands that her nephew has conquered. She succeeds in her quest but in the process manages to make an enemy of Katherine Tudor, Queen of Navarre. Margaret Tudor gets pregnant again. Claude of France becomes pregnant again. Henri of Navarre gets captured in a very large battle against Spain and is taken into custody. Mary Tudor, Holy Roman Empress, dies in a miscarriage to a foetus that cannot be gendered.

1525: Unfortunately, Margaret Tudor dies, as her sister did the year before, in her case giving birth to her son Robert Douglas. In another unfortunate event, Claude of France dies giving birth to Adelaide of France. Henri II of Navarre, who was taken in battle the year before, begins to get sick.

1526: Henri II of Navarre spends the year slowly but surely getting sicker and sicker, eventually dying in May. After hearing the news, Katherine Tudor has her son proclaimed King John IV of Navarre. She then sends a letter to her brother asking him to protect her rights and another to Francis I of France offering to take up where Claude of France left off if he would just protect and help her children and their rights. Charles, Holy Roman Emperor sends his regrets to Katherine Tudor and begins to spar with her to make sure he gets most of the territory he lost back.
