If you choose to accept, just as the title says, as Marx had at least some options. Even later he did not think that the place would be where the revolution would start, and before becoming full time (supported by Engels, a rich boy by day and revolutionary behind the scenes) he railed on how Russia was on the march towards the gates of sacred Europe. Anarchists would still be around, but how would this change the world? Being such a deep thinker Marx provided depth beyond the frothing of mouth and reoccurring Russian/European revolutions which were soon forgotten.
