WI: Kaiser Frederick III doesn't die in 1888?

The 1885 conference set up by Bismarck was mostly agreed to because the French and British wanted to avoid a war with each other over Africa. This implies that Britain had at least some interest in French colonies there.

Mainland France is an unlikely target though.

Interesting, thanks. I wonder where the potential conflicts were at that time? Sudan and Fashoda were rather later so which territories were disputed?

Egypt was a main one, but I don't remember what else everyone wanted.

Anyway I got this from a book called "Empire: How Britain Made the Modern World" if you want to research it further.

By 1890 Britain had Egypt so wouldn't need to attack a French colony, but there may have been other areas it was interested in that had been left to French influence. Morocco possibly, its iron ore might have been a valuable resource. I'll have to look again at Empire, if I can borrow it from my daughter.

1890 was quite a bit after the negotiation. In 1884 or so there was quite a bit of a dispute about it, so in an ATL that has a POD around here, the dispute could continue parallel to Frederick living, could lead to a war.

I'm not sure about Morocco, hadn't that been under French influence for nearly a half century? Stuff on / near the British colonies on the Ivory Coast could be a disputed area.
