WI: Jungle Primary in the United States

Currently, the state of California uses the "jungle primary" to determine the candidates for a statewide office.

What would it take for a jungle system to be implemented in the United States, at what time might it be implemented, and what would be the results of said implementation?

Very interesting. Say this was in place before the 2008 Presidential election. That it dealt with the presidency. You might see the weaking of the two major parties(I doubt it) Maybe Clinton vs Obama in the final in November. That would be the wildest outcome of such a system.

In the United States, as in used by every jurisdiction for their distinct primaries, or in some other manner?

It would take a titanic effort to get the "jungle system" implemented throughout the entire U.S. It would take a constitutional amendment to do so. Otherwise, it would be up to the legislatures of each of the 50 states to implement it within their state.
