Assuming that the New Testament narrative about Judas selling Jesus to the Pharisees for 30 pieces of silver is true, what happens if he doesn't sell out his friend and possible relative? Is Jesus still crucified? I imagine so, since his followers called him "King of the Jews" and claimed that he was descended from the line of David, but... how does it change the nature of Christianity if Judas is not a traitor? How might Judas himself change the religion? Wasn't he particularly close to Jesus? Would he not then be the logical inheritor of the movement?
