From what I've read (and it's not a lot), Jose Maria Morelos was a pretty good revolutionary commander. However, after a few good campaigns, after the "Sentiments of the Nation" were set out, his next was an utter disaster.
What if he tries some different strategy? Or, if he just wins a bit more earlier? How quickly could they win independence? True, the Spanish fought till 1821 as it was, but with a few more defeats, they might tire a little easier, I'd think.
Also, however it's easiest for Morelos to be Mexico's George Washington - even if it would require continued revolts in Spain itself distracting it - how would Mexico develop differently with him at the helm and not Iturbide? I did read on Wikipedia, I think, that the leaders drafted a Constitution calling for a weak executive and strong legislature, the opposite of what he wanted - unless I'm getting him confused with someone else, which I could be.
