WI John Moore survived Corunna

John Moore was a military commander who was a Liberal and was just as good as Wellington apparently but was killed in Corunna which was still a tactical victory for the British.

So what if he survived the battle and lived to fight some more in Spain. Maybe he strengthens the Liberal cause or fights in 1812.

That was the idea of a TL I started a few years back.:) Had Wellington as Moore's No. 2 but it was Moore who gained the main prestige, fame and influence. Initially in Spain and then in N America. [Wellington gains fame rallying the defeated British and allies after Waterloo and defending Antwept until the other powers finally defeat Napoleon, but never has the same influence].

As such Moore is the key liberal figure in much of the 1820's-30's and able to influence politics, bringing greater reform earlier. You see more marked social change and educational reform, which coupled with some fairly dramatic international changes, means that Britain doesn't lose the social and industrial lead in the way it did OTL later in the Victorian period.:D

On the other hand it could be that his support form radical causes results in greater tension and possibly brutal suppression that means Britain goes into decline earlier.:(
