WI John McCain Left His Prison

If you were following the election, you know the story, after two years of being a Prisoner of War in North Vietnam, John McCain, as his father was commander of US forces in Vietnam, was offered an early release. However, due to the "first in, first out" policy, he did not choose to do so.

What would have happened to him suppose he decided to leave early?

He'd be in a much weaker moral standing now, not only did he drop his "integrity" for what he did, but he has played into the hands of the North Vietnamese- even worse, unintentionally.

I know that. Which makes me wonder what his future political shots are. Maybe he could be a Democrat?

Why would he be a Democrat? What part of the John McCain leaves prison camp early leads you to believe he would then be a Democrat?

If he even gets involved in politics, which is still possible, there is no dishonor in leaving early, war is hell, torture is hell, what he was going through was hell, I'm willing to bet 9 out of 10 people would have jumped on the chance, and who in their right mind could blame them?

He'd have his critics, perhaps a POW action group like John Kerry had the Swift Boat Vets for Truth in 04 riding his case, and it might have hurt his chances of winning the republican nomination for President in 2000 and 2008 but, really not much else changes I reckon.

Are you trying to make the totally false and biased point that if one becomes a Democrat one loses any integrity? Apologies if I misread this and your not.

I would think that there would more likely be a "swift-boat" smear campaign in the primaries if he was a Republican... but if he WAS a Democrat, he could be with Kerry in 2004...

I just think that a Democrat McCain (also a maverick) could work, a conservative reformist Democrat from the South, would be good on any ticket.

Meh probably wouldn't change much I mean he usually as seen as was POW in vietnam on his resume regarless of the lenght of his stay in prison camp, his life could relatively the same except (going in politic and all) with a differnent chronology

but still it might bring on some butterfly (though I don't know McCain life much)

I think the release-in-order-captured was military policy and he obeyed the orders of his superior in POW camp by staying.

If he left, he'd be in trouble with the military hierarchy I think.
