WI: John Kerry v. Romney 2012 (Kerry doesn't run in 2004, gets elected President in 2008)

So could Culver, Harkin, Gephardt, or Vilsack. Daschle too, depending on 2004 butterflies.
Well, Culver had only become Governor in 2007. But I was listing candidates from a 2008 perspective, not 2004. Bayh and Sebelius are strong candidates. Bill Richardson could be an additional reason why he loses re-election to Romney in 2012. Sam Nunn and Wesley Clark help in the South and defense policy. Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and Ed Rendell don't provide regional balance.

I know Nunn was talked about in 2008, but he's been out of office for a while by then.

I can't picture a 2008 where Hillary and Obama both don't run and Kerry doesn't have a prayer against either one of them.
