WI Jesus was not so forgiving?

What if instead of preaching a message of forgiveness, love and pacifism (turn the other cheek and all), he instead preached a message of vengeance, hatred of your enemies and war-like aggression towards those who opposed the faith?

Also (and this assumes the miracles and powers of Jesus are real) what if instead of using his powers to heal people and raise the dead, he used them to rain plagues of locusts, boils and famine down on those who doubted him? Would that bring him more followers than his acts of kindness?

In the supposition that these miracles actually happened, i think more people wouldnt regard Jesus as the Messiah but more a New Satan. No Christianity, more a tiny, highly agressive sect for thugs that probably wouldnt survive past the Romans.

Why? The OT God did all that and it didn't seem to turn off the Israelites. And if the leader of the religion was the wrathful incarnation of God, I don't think they'd have much to fear from the Romans.

And a pissed off Vengeance Jesus would still be around today since he would just smite any pesky Romans that try to crucify him.

He wasn't all that forgiving in the first place.

Matthew 11:21-24 (King James Version)

21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes

22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

That's God (at least OT God), not Jesus. Jesus is not God, Jesus is God Incarnate, the two are not the same entity (unless you believe in hypostatic union).

Nice sig, btw. It might be offensive to some people, depending on the context you're using it in.

That would mean that hardcore Christians are intolerant belligerent psychopaths... who would've thunk it?:D

But seriously, it could be successful, especially if he preached hatred against the Romans. The Romans would probably kill him and string him up from a tree within the week though.

If Jesus preached a message of vegeance and hatred Earth would have been a very deserted planet by now... or maybe with very few inhabitants... who would kill each other on sight... and the last one would commit suicide...:D:eek:

Christ is both God and man in union neither different nor the same.

Heh. That's what I was about to say. "And the history of Christianity would be different, how?"

I think his nastiest incident was his racial ranting against the desperate Canaanite woman. Aside from his occasional use of jeremiads (like the Tyre and Sidon rant from Matthew, above) and the wacky fig tree affair, his ethnocentric invective seems rather out of character.

When I wear a blue shirt I am not the same entity I am when I wear a red shirt. I am a few seconds older now than I was when I started this post, therefore neither the same nor different.

Christian theology ... splitting heirs.

It was necessary for the Church Fathers to clarify every little thing,so that a new heresy may not arise.
