WI: Jesus in Japan

Before you ask, yes, I was inspired to make this thread after watching Abroadin Japan's video on Shingō. The whole story behind it is so absurdly silly that it warrants a discussion here.

So, using the legend as a basis, attempt to figure out how this AH could've happened.

Easiest way (dunno if it counts as a cop-out) is for a relic of Jesus like the Shroud of Turin to get brought to Japan by Jesuit missionaries. Somehow it gets lost, rediscovered by the Japanese, and you have a neat little tourist attraction/possibly shrine built on the spot it was found.

We've been worshipping the wrong brother? That's a new one, for me. But if Isukiri (now that's a nice name for a good Jewish boy) died on the cross (casually?), and what kind of dishonorable older brother did he have to allow him to do it? That's despicable in Japan - and shows the people who came up with it did not understand Christianity.

On the other hand, you could have Jesus appear in a vision to someone in Shinto, post-resurrection, and convert the someone. Unless you want to go with the 12 year stint in Japan studying the divine.....that's it's own explanation for how this AH could've happened.

I suppose if he traveled as a holy man with few possessions he could probably pass relatively unmolested through most areas. You'd have to be pretty damn dedicated to walk across Asia though. Assuming what, 3-4 years travel time minimum? That alone rules out the Shingo story but I think you could still have someone travel to Japan. Roman embassy supposedly reached China about a century later so it's not impossible or ASB, just unlikely in the extreme.
