WI: Japanese revolution

Is it possible for the Japanese to rebel against the emperor and have him guillotined/beheaded just like what happened to the French revolution.

1600s? The emperor was a figurehead with the Daimyo clans ruling as regional warlords..

Such an act would be sacrilegious and stupid for anyone to attempt. For most of history, the emperor had basically no power, so any powerful daimyo COULD have done it, but there would be no reason for them to do so.

As for the Meiji Emperor, now THAT could have happened, and its possible that a super reactionary daimyo in the 1800s in opposition to modernization kills the emperor and installs a more friendly, reactionary, anti-imperialist one. But even that is quite unlikely.

As for the French Revolution part, the chances of liberal enlightenment ideals causing a popular, middle class led revolt to overturn a centralized state, the answer is HELL NO. Japan was probably the last country such an event could happen to.
