WI:Japanese cruisers not sunk by submarines on 23 October 1944

On 23 October 1944, the submarines Darter and Dace sunk 2 heavy cruisers and crippled a third. What if the cruisers weren't sunk?
POD IS
1. Both submarines are sunk before that date.
2.Japanese destroyers manage to sink them [maybe they were used as anti submarine screening and managed to sink them before the submarines launched their torpedoes]
3.The cruisers were travelling at a higher speed .
According to the opinions of several historians, it contributed to increase Kurita's demoralization. Your thoughts?

At most a few more USN ships get sunk, more die, and the Center Force still gets beat up. Maybe Halsey gets his head out of his ass and leaves his battleline behind to cover the San Bernardino Straight and his planes kill off the survivors.
