WI: Japan sues for peace after Midway

Not unusual. Considering how ignorant, so-called American experts on Japan were, it is a miracle that the Japanese democratic reformers were able to overcome American blundering and make the nascent democracy movement that MacArthur's people found and encouraged work. There has to be something there to encourage, you know?

I wouldn't say baseball is a sign of Americanization of Japan, it was quite popular before the war; the American occupation didn't bring baseball to Japan.

The Japanese already had the fixings, themselves, from the 1920s onward. Importation of other cultural traditions is a characteristic of an adaptive culture. In this they are very much like the Americans used to be. They needed some "help" along the way to finalize their results.
