WI Jane Seymour survives but can't have more children

Let's assume Jane doesn't die after giving birth but later can't have more children. Either can't get pregnant or has series of stillborn children.

What does Henry do? OOH Jane gave him a son so that's that. OTOH she can't have more so thats that as well. Henry Fitzroy is dead by this point as well so he can't be the spare.

So I think he'll not get rid of her as he did with first Catherine and first Anne. But does he start playing around? Obviously Jane survivng butterflies second Anne but could second Catherine become his mistress?

To divorce the mother of his heir would not be a wise move, espeically as divorcing Jane could lead to Edwards claim being weakened by the spare.

Henry would most likely stay with her until she dies but have mistresses who "try" and provide a spare who is adopted by Queen Jane, as their rightful child.

As the mother of the heir, Jane was completely unassailable, regardless of whether she conceived again or not. 2 sons are better than one but one is better than none. Henry only outlived Jane by a decade, so the pressure on her is not that great to conceive again, although she would feel under some pressure to continue to try with earnest, especially having proven she was capable of producing a healthy son once.

Antonia Fraser in her excellent book about the 6 Wives speculates what would have happened had one of Catherine of Aragon's sons lived, she concludes that regardless if all her other children died or of how infatuated Henry became with Anne Boleyn, Henry would do nothing which jeopardized the position of his one legitimate child, his son by Catherine.

The same is equally true of Jane.

Henry was not a promiscuous man by the standards of the time, so its debatable whether he would have pursued extra marital relationships. Moreover his health dramatically declined from 1536 onward and his weight greatly increased. His relationship with Jane was believed to be good and she was very content to play the traditional role as wife and Queen and would have probably thrived as Henry's carer.
